It is bordered by the Indian Ocean, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and South Africa. Mozambique was explored by Vasco da Gama during 1498 and then colonised by Portugal in 1505. This country finally became independent in 1975 and was there after known as the People's Republic of Mozambique. Mozambique is the world's 35th-largest country spanning 801,537 square kilometres and has over two million inhabitants.
