Game Fishing

For almost 50 years, Big Game Fishing has been a major attraction in Mozambique and consistently draws fishermen back, again and again. The variety of species avalible in this area is unbelievable and fishing is great all year round.In addition to Mozambique itself there are 5 islands: Bazaruto, Benguerra, Maraque, Banque and Santa Carolina which lie along the Moçambican channel. Bazaruto is the premier fishing destination in Mozambique and offers Big Game Fishing on a world class level. Mid September until the end of December is the best time for Marlin fishing while Sailfish abound from April to August.

Inhaca and Portuguese Island Viewing Via Boats

Snorkeling in Tofu Bay

Tofu Bay can be accessed from Inhambane by motorboat or dhow from the town of Maxixe. It has a huge stretch of sand dunes behind beaches which surrounds a crystal clear bay. It also happens to have the best diving available in Mozambique. The reefs off of Tofu Bay allow visitors to snorkel with Whale Sharks and Mantas all year round. The whale shark season is from November up until May but sightings are made throughout the year.

Dolphin and Whale Viewing

Mozambique is known for its many beauties and its amazing wildlife. Extremely clean beaches and flawless reefs as well as perfect marine life make for one of the few areas where whale and dolphin watching is a common occurrence. Ponto do Ouro happens to be along the whales’ migratory route and is a prime whale and dolphin watching spot. Whale season normally begins in August and ends around November. During this season you can spot The Humpback and the Southern Right Whale. Dolphin spotting takes place throughout the year and is best accompanied with a snorkelling trip.

Turtle Nesting

Ponta Mamoli in Mozambique is a holiday destination 25 kilometres from the Kosi Bay border . It is the best place to see turtle nesting. Loggerhead and leatherback female turtles come here to lay their eggs and can be seen between November andl March nesting along the beaches. During sunset, and through out the night, they crawl along the beach, digging holes and laying up to 300 eggs. After this, they cover them with sand and crawl back into the sea.

Bird Watching

The dynamic and active culture of Mozambique has an activity for every traveler, including bird watching. Bird watching in this area really is rewarding and it is a very popular spot to view them. This is the home of vast wetlands and mangrove forests which are in danger of ceasing to exist because of man. In this area, there are more than 690 species to see.The Bazaruto Archipelago is a great spot to watch for migrating birds and the shores are fulled with sandpipers, plovers etc.. Praia do Sol is also a marvelous place to bird watch as it is buzzing almost all day. It is highly reccommended to take early morning strolls on the lagoon where you may see the Palm Nut Vulture gliding calmly over the lagoon.

Horseriding on Mozambique's beaches

With well trained horses that are expertly managed , even people with no experience on horses can enjoy this activity. Horse safaris can be custom made and run from the Vilanculos coast regularly. Vilanculos is a great place for beginers or nervous riders as challenging situations are not likely to occur.

This is a great opportunity to explore the area from the vantage point of a microlight. Spot dolphins, whales and even the odd turtle from the sky and swoop in low to take a closer look.The microlight allows you to explore Mozambique without being tied to how much ground you can cover in one day. You can see more in one hour in a microlight than most people on the ground will see in a day. This is ideal if you have a fairly limited amount of time on your hands.

4 Wheel Quad Bike Riding

For the more adventurous, guided tours will take you on a quad bike trail. Quad biking through the coconut plantations and into the local African villages, you will learn about the culture and the history. With its Portuguese heritage and its African culture, 4 wheel quad bikes are fairly user friendly. Your guide will instruct you on how to use one if it us your first time using one. This tour is enjoyable for both young and old. It is to be noted that quad bikes are not permitted on the beaches in order to preserve the ecosystem.

The Grand Station of Maputo

One of the most notable colonial structures in Mozambique is the Grand Train Station of Maputo. The Grand Train Station of Maputo has impressive white marble pillars and a rather large dome that covers it. A select number of steam trains, no longer in operation, decorate the tracks, taking visitors on a visual journey back to the time when Maputo was alive with colonial trade. There is a restaurant and bar inside the train station worth visiting to try out one of the Mozambican beers, Laurentina, while hearing the tale of the lost “Kruger Millions”.

National Art Museum In Maputo

Located in the cosmopolitan Bairro Central region of Maputo lies The National Art Museum in Maputo .This museum holds the contemporary art of some of Mozambique’s greatest artists. In this museum you can view a range of sculptures, paintings, drawings, print and other mixed mediums. The works of selected famous artists in the museum include those of Bertina Lopes, Chichorro, Chissano, Estavao Mucavele, Celestino Tomas, and a few others.You may also glimpse into the mechanics of the local artwork, with a workshop where visitors can view Mozambican artists at work.

Iron House in Maputo

Near the city centre is one of Maputo’s curious historical attractions: the Iron House of Maputo. This house, made completely of iron, walls, ceiling and all, was designed by Gustav Eifel. It was built as the governor’s house in the late 19th Century, but it was far too hot, being made of iron. The beauty of the house is difficult to measure, and yet impossible to ignore.

Maputo Elephant Reserve

The Maputo Elephant Reserve is situated about 79 kilometres south of Maputo. The Maputo Elephant Reserve should be visited by travellers with 4x4 vehicles. The reserve is a part of the Lubombo Transfrontier Conservation Area, a collection of national parks from South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland. This park has more than 200 elephants. A visit to the Maputo Elephant Reserve is also beneficial for bird-lovers . The most interesting feature of the park is the elephant population as well as the Zebras and antelopes , crocodiles and hippos.
